Italy Vs France
1:1 Fulltime
1:1 a.e.t
5:3 PSO
Monday, 10th July 2006, (sg time)
Germany Berlin's Olympiastadion
spells the victory of ITALY being the FIFA WorldCup 2006 Champion!!!
Since this is the final match of the WorldCup, pardon me for updating a lengthy one, just wanna share with you guys the joy of Italy!
So here it goes:
Before fulltime,
France's Zinedine Zidane(10) earned a free penalty kick at 6th min, after Italy's Marco Materazzi(23) was adjudged to have illegally halted the progress of France's Florent Malouda(7) as he hurtled into the box.
Scored by Italy's Marco Materazzi(23).
At least, in order to atone his mistake, Italy's defender Marco Materazzi(23) managed to gain back the goal at the 16th min and the score was remained at 1:1 until Penalty Shootout.
However..
During Additional Extra Time (A.E.T)
France's Zinedine Zidane(10) got himself a red card and was sent off for his off-the-ball incident in which Materazzi was butted in the chest. A sad way for the France captain to end his glorious career. That previous goal marked his 31st and last goal for France.
Penalty Shootout (PSO) 5:3
Italy: Andre Pirlo(21), Marco Materazzi(23), De Rossi(4), Del Piero(7) and lastly Fabio Grosso(3) scored.
France: Sylvain Wiltord(11), Eric Abidal(3) ,Willy Sagnol(19) scored, David Trezeguet(20) missed.
Fabio Grosso (3)
A no-nonsense left-foot strike into the right-hand corner of the net underlined the contribution the Palermo defender has made to the Italian cause this past month.
Italy's Fabio Grosso (3) being the last penalty scorer,
